Camp I

Wes and Curtis are currently at Camp I at about 7,800 feet. They flew in this morning on a Beaver and landed on the glacier at about 11:30 a.m. There were two other climbers on their flight - two Germans. Those guys were carrying so much gear - two duffel bags each. It looked like they were planning to relocate to Denali permanently. Wes and Curtis then spent about an hour at base camp getting geared up. They officially started their climb at 1:00 p.m. They first tackled Heartbreak Hill. They made it through the crevasses without a problem. They did not see too many other climbers besides the Germans who were behind them. They did see a couple of guided teams up ahead of them but that was it. They hiked for about 5 1/2 hours to Camp I. They had the headwind on their faces for the climb so that made it colder. Wes said it is about 8 degrees with 25 to 30 mph winds. Tomorrow they plan to climb Ski Hill weather permitting.
